EndoStim is a medical device company focused on treating severe Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) through electrical stimulation of the lower esophageal sphincter. GERD is a condition affecting millions of people worldwide and is often not optimally treated despite a maximum drug dosage of medications such as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). EndoStim’s innovative technology addresses the root physiological cause of the disease -- namely a weak or dysfunctional lower esophageal sphincter that allows for reflux into the esophagus.
The device can be customized on a per-patient basis and can be modified non-invasively over time to adapt to changing patient lifestyle and preferences. The procedure is minimally invasive and reversible.
The company is currently conducting chronic human clinical trials in key centers across South America, Europe, and Asia and expects CE Mark approval in the beginning of 2012.
The EndoStim LES Stimulation System comprised of three components: an electrical stimulation lead, an implantable pulse generator (IPG) and an external programmer. The IPG and stimulation lead are to be implanted using conventional laparoscopy.
